DOUGLASS MERRELL
Ciao a Tutti!
I've had the wonderful opportunity of living in Rome and other sites in Italy for almost 20 years while studying and teaching about its history to college students from the U.S.
I would like to share this experience with anyone who has ever dreamed of Rome and Italy but might feel overwhelmed by its immense history and its status as an international tourist destination.
There is so much to see and do in Rome, and a highlight of this experience is the unique culture of the Roman piazzas that can best be appreciated by staying in the historical center of Rome. Below is the wonderful Campo de' Fiori which I believe is the ideal piazza in Rome for the experience of full immersion in the unique culture of Rome
The spectacle of St. Peter's Basilica from the Tiber River.
There are lots of tours of Rome and Italy featuring luxury hotels, huge chartered buses, five-star restaurants, and shopping at Gucci and Valentino.
The travel experience to Rome and Italy that I would like to share is for people who want to experience the Roman and Italian lifestyle on a limited budget without sacrificing the full potential of Rome and Italy as a tourist destination. Photo by Jebulon via Wikimedia Commons.
I want to share my deep love and appreciation for Italian history and culture.

Trastevere, the lively community literally across the river from the historical center of Rome.
I love sharing my knowledge of the mysteries of Rome's past as well as:
The Italian's love for their unique cuisine.
The street-theater spectacle of the piazzas,
The pleasure of the passeggiata, leisurely strolls through the city,
The siesta, the midday nap to relax and re-energize,
The dynamic nightlife,
The special Italian mode of hospitality and friendship.
